If you're on the hunt for an authentic Italian dining experience in San Diego, look no further than Nonna’s Italian Comfort Food nestled in the heart of Little Italy. This charming eatery offers a delightful escape with its cozy atmosphere that balances classic elegance with a homey touch. The decor features ornate chandeliers and soft, dim lighting, setting the stage for a truly intimate dining experience. The patio is spacious and equipped with heat lamps to keep diners comfortable during the cooler months, however we chose to settle indoors. Our waiter, an older gentleman was incredibly kind and attentiveness.  His knowledgeable recommendations and the extensive wine list, featuring both local and international selections, promised a great start to our meal.

We began with the prosciutto appetizer ($11.95), a delightful combination of flavors and textures. The dish featured thinly sliced prosciutto paired with ripe tomatoes, a drizzle of garlic-infused olive oil, shaved Parmigiano, fresh basil, and crisp crostini. Each bite was a harmonious blend of rich and refreshing elements, setting a high bar for the rest of our meal.

For the main course, we indulged in the linguine vongole ($25.95). This classic Italian dish showcased tender clams in a savory sauce of shaved garlic, extra virgin olive oil, and perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of seasoning. The linguine was cooked al dente, making each bite a satisfying experience.

No Italian meal would be complete without dessert, and Nonna’s handmade cannoli ($11) did not disappoint. These sweet treats were filled with a creamy ricotta mixture that balanced richness with just the right touch of sweetness, rounding off our meal on a high note.

The overall price of $60.90 for a glass of pinot grigio ($12), the appetizer, entrée, and dessert was quite reasonable, especially considering the Little Italy setting and the quality of the food and service. Nonna’s Italian Comfort Food not only delivers on flavor but also offers a genuine taste of Italy in a setting that's both elegant and comforting.

Whether you're a local or just visiting San Diego, Nonna’s is a must-visit spot for anyone craving an authentic Italian meal in a welcoming atmosphere.
